About

About One Yard Patterns

I am an artist and biologist living in Northern California and have been sewing since I was 8 years old. I have always tried to approach fashion sustainably by scouring thrift stores and yard sales for renewable treasures. With the closing of Joann’s, I’m looking at my stash of fabric and available remnants with new eyes and searching for highest/best uses of irreplaceable fabrics.

I am developing patterns with the focus of using only one yard of fabric and am very excited to share the Jane Top with you. This is a top I have thought about for years, sewed many times, in all versions, and in several types of fabric. I have worn it out and about and am very happy to report that no one asks “did you sew that?”. This top is very comfortable, super easy to sew, and very forgiving.

It was also important to me to provide instructions for drawing the pattern. I’m lucky enough to have a copy shop in my town that can print large format patterns but not everyone does, and no one likes taping together 45 sheets of printer paper. The pattern includes detailed measurements and step by step instructions for drawing the pattern onto butcher paper or pattern paper. Video tutorials will be coming soon.

If you like this pattern and are interested in other one yard patterns, I would love to hear about it.
